Callington CC Player Sponsorship

With sport starting to get back on track following the lockdown period, Burcombe Haulage are supporting Callington Cricket Club this summer with player and match ball sponsorship.

We are sponsoring Adam Snowdon for the season, a key player within the first team, Burcombe will also sponsor a cricket ball for one of the league games over the next few weeks.

As a company of sports fans, we are thrilled to be involved with a large and established local club and wish Adam and all of Callington’s teams the best of luck for the season.

Devon & Cornwall Food Action get helping hand from Burcombe

Burcombe Haulage were delighted to help out Devon & Cornwall Food Action (DCFA) to get their chiller van back on the road, providing deliveries to families across both counties.

The charity strives to eradicate food poverty in Devon and Cornwall, run almost entirely by a volunteer workforce. DCFA work with food producers and supermarkets to redistribute surplus good to those in need, supplying and providing food to families identified as being in desperate need to feed themselves.

Burcombe worked in partnership with Burts Snacks in picking up and repairing one of their chiller vans, which is essential to the fleet in collecting and delivering cold foods from food providers to those who need it most.

We received the following thank you video from Alan Dunne, Chairman for Devon & Cornwall Food Action, thanking both companies for their help and time in fixing the vehicle and we are more than happy to have been able to help this fantastic charity be able to continue their much needed work in the community.

Adapting to a ‘new normal’ during pandemic

There have been many changes at Burcombe in the last three months as we adapt to Government restrictions for the safety of our staff and visitors.

Although many businesses have reopened this week, as an essential industry Burcombe Haulage have continued to run throughout the lockdown and have been modifying how we work since March. Hand sanitiser stations, protective screens, adopting 2m when it comes to desk space and movement around the yard and offices, signage and PPE packs, to name a few.

We will maintain adjustments to our working practice and environment in response to the most up to date guidelines and risk assessments, to ensure it is a safe workplace while the fight against Covid19 continues.

Big thank you to all the team for their support and co-operation throughout!

New Volvo FH500 tc

Burcombe Haulage’s new Volvo FH500 tc will be on the road from 1st June and comes with a fuel saving engine and equipment required for new driving safety regulations in London.

The Volvo turbo compound engine features an ‘I-Save’ package, which equates to an overall saving of 5% on fuel – advantageous for the nationwide mileage this truck covers.

With additional devices fitted to achieve a safety permit to comply with the London Direct Vision Standard, the vehicle has a close proximity sensor, blind spot cameras, class V and VI mirrors and an audible alert for when the vehicle is turning left.

With the support of our local dealer Stuarts Truck and Bus, Burcombe were able to trial their demonstrator vehicle and a subsequent purchase was made. The vehicle will be the first new truck for driver Robin Burton and replaces his outgoing 5 year old FH500.

Point to Point Roadsweeper Service

Burcombe Haulage supported the East Cornwall Great Trethew Point to Point last Sunday, volunteering to provide roadsweeper services. Thankfully the event went ahead, despite the concerning weather conditions and the original date cancellation.

Congratulations to Charlotte Summersby, who picked up her first Point to Point win on Cloudy Music, a barn in the novice riders.

Burcombe Support Local Diver

Burcombe Haulage were delighted to support local diver Josh Freeman at a recent national diving competition in Scotland, as he pursues his dream to dive for Team GB one day.

The competition was for the top divers in the UK and Europe whereby you had to be at an elite level to be invited, despite the age group being 16-18 year olds, 14 year old Josh was invited to take part.

He was on schedule for a possible 2nd place in his platform event but unfortunately one dive did not go so well and he finished in a commendable 7th place among much older and experienced competitors.

He was also pleased with his performance in the springboard event, on the 3m springboard he landed a forward 3 ½ somersault dive for the first time in a competition.

Josh has another big weekend coming up, taking part in the British Diving Championships 2020 held in Plymouth where the top GB divers will all try to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

Burcombe made a contribution towards his costs for the event in Scotland in support of his achievement in reaching this pinnacle point. Josh and his parents Rodney and Sue thanked the company for their support. We will be continuing to follow Josh’s journey in a sport he clearly has a talent in, as he aims for an Olympic place of his own in the not too distance future.
